Oticon Zeal uses encapsulation technology to deliver invisible in-canal design with 20-hour rechargeable battery, AI processing, Bluetooth streaming, and same-day fitting capability.

We are excited to announce the Oticon Zeal is now available at our Lufkin clinic. It is the most discreet, fully featured in-the-ear hearing aid Oticon has ever produced — combining invisible wear, rechargeable power, AI-driven sound processing, and Bluetooth connectivity in a single device.

For a long time, patients who wanted a truly invisible hearing aid had to accept trade-offs. Smaller devices meant weaker processing, no rechargeability, and limited wireless connectivity. The Oticon Zeal changes that for our patients, and our experienced team is trained on the proper fitting and programming of this new technology.

What Makes the Oticon Zeal Different

Most in-the-canal hearing aids are made using a traditional assembly process, where components are placed inside a custom-molded shell. That approach limits how much technology can fit in a small space and leaves the internal electronics vulnerable to moisture and debris.

Oticon built the Zeal differently. The entire body of the device is sealed using an encapsulation process — components are fully enclosed in a hardened material with no hollow spaces. The result is a hearing aid that is more compact, more durable (IP68 moisture and dust resistance), and powerful enough to house a full rechargeable lithium-ion battery alongside premium sound processing.

This is not a modest update to an existing product. It is a structural rethink of how a small hearing aid is made.

Sound Quality

The Zeal runs on Oticon's Sirius platform and includes second-generation Deep Neural Network (DNN 2.0) sound processing. The AI processes sound continuously throughout the day, drawing on training from millions of real-world noisy environments to separate speech from background noise more precisely than earlier generations.

Oticon refers to this approach as BrainHearing — the idea that hearing aids should support how the brain naturally processes a full sound scene, not just amplify selected sounds. Rather than narrowing in on one voice and cutting everything else, the Zeal gives your brain access to the full environment with noise reduced in a natural way.

For those who have struggled in noisy restaurants, group conversations, or crowded spaces, this matters. The Zeal has been shown to deliver up to approximately 6 dB of signal-to-noise improvement, which translates to clearer speech in difficult listening situations.

Discreet Design and Fit

The Zeal sits fully inside the ear canal, with only a slim antenna cord that wraps discreetly around the outer ear. In testing across more than 1,500 ears, the device was not visible or only barely visible in approximately 94% of fittings.

One practical benefit of the Zeal's design is same-day fitting. Many in-the-ear hearing aids require custom impressions, a waiting period, and a return visit. The Zeal can be fitted the same day using standard domes — the same domes used with Oticon's Intent receiver-in-canal devices. For patients who prefer a fully custom fit, micro-molds are also available.

The Zeal fits mild to moderately severe hearing loss using instant-fit domes, with the fitting range extending further toward the severe end with custom micro-molds.

Rechargeability and Battery Life

Rechargeable batteries in a hearing aid this small have historically been difficult to achieve. The Zeal's encapsulation technology creates room for a larger sealed lithium-ion cell, delivering:

  • Up to 20 hours of battery life on a full charge
  • 4 hours of use from a 15-minute charge
  • 8 hours of use from a 30-minute charge
  • A portable SmartCharger that holds multiple full charges

This means patients no longer need to carry spare batteries or worry about running out of power during a long day.

Connectivity

The Zeal streams directly to both iOS and Android devices — a genuine departure from most in-the-ear hearing aids, which have traditionally offered limited or no wireless streaming. Using Bluetooth LE Audio, wearers can stream phone calls, music, TV audio, and meeting audio directly to their hearing aids.

Google Fast Pair simplifies the initial setup process. The Zeal also supports Auracast, a newer broadcast audio standard that allows users to tune into public audio systems in theaters, airports, and other venues that have adopted the technology — directly through their hearing aids.

For patients who find smartphone pairing frustrating, Oticon's Easy LE Adapter provides a USB solution for older devices.

A Note on Over-the-Counter Options

We understand that OTC hearing aids are increasingly visible in pharmacies and online. For some people with very mild, uncategorized hearing changes, these devices may provide some benefit. What they cannot do is account for your specific pattern of hearing loss, the shape of your ear canal, or the way your brain processes sound.

The Zeal is programmed by an audiologist to your individual audiogram, and adjusted over time as your hearing needs change. That level of precision makes a significant difference in outcomes — particularly in noisy environments where a generic amplification setting falls short. An audiologist-fitted device, supported by ongoing care, consistently delivers better results than a self-fitted one for anyone with diagnosed hearing loss.
