A question that our team receives regularly is “Are hearing aids covered by my insurance?”

Hearing aids are often the best approach for treating hearing loss, but they do require a financial investment. Financing them can be a challenge for many patients, and navigating health insurance can be confusing. There are many different plans, packages, and policy riders, and there’s a whole lot of fine print to sift through.

This is exactly why we have an insurance specialist on staff to help you understand the ins and outs of your insurance coverage. Hearing aids can be truly transformational for those who need them, and we want to ensure that no patient is left out due to the associated costs.

Humana Coverage for Hearing Health in Texas

Many hearing loss patients are within the age range for Medicare eligibility. Humana offers Medicare Parts A and B, known as Original Medicare, which provide limited coverage for hearing health. While hearing aids or exams for fitting hearing aids are not covered, Medicare Part B can provide coverage for diagnostic hearing and balance exams.

If your hearing care provider recommends that you have these exams, Medicare Part B can help cover the costs. Once you’ve met the Part B deductible, you’re responsible for paying 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount. You may also be responsible for a hospital copayment if the exams take place in an outpatient setting.

Coverage for Hearing Implants

Since Medicare recognizes specific hearing implants as prosthetic devices, they do provide coverage for some devices that replace the function of the middle ear or cochlea. Auditory osseointegrated devices, auditory brainstem implant (ABI) devices, and bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHA) are all covered by Medicare.

Medicare Advantage Plan Benefits

Humana insurance also offers Medicare Advantage (Part C). Part C plans fill in some gaps from Original Medicare and does include coverage for hearing aids. Part C plans also include more benefits and coverage for vision and dental care. Keep in mind that coverage can vary from plan to plan, so you’ll need to review the specifics of your plan carefully.

Our insurance specialist is here to help make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible. Our goal is to help you get the most out of your insurance coverage and make the best decisions for your individual hearing health needs.
