Can You Prevent Tinnitus?
You may be wondering if there is anything that you can do to avoid getting tinnitus, otherwise known as ringing in the ears. Sometimes tinnitus is just a side effect of another condition and other times it is on its own. There are steps that you can take to try and prevent getting tinnitus, but sometimes it can just appear out of seemingly nowhere. Here are some of the things that you can try.
Sometimes tinnitus can be caused by an ear infection, and if you don’t have an infection, you don’t have the annoying sound. One way to stop yourself from getting an ear infection is to wear earplugs when you go swimming or when you go somewhere that is full of loud noises. As well as this, if you are going somewhere like a music concert make sure you don’t stand by the speakers. Even your earplugs might not be able to protect you from that.
You might not want to wear earplugs because you think they make you look uncool. Well, all we can say to that is you will still be able to enjoy your music with the earplugs in and as for looking cool, having your hearing is cooler than hearing ringing all the time. We’re not saying that you will definitely get tinnitus if you don’t wear earplugs but these are just one of the ways to prevent that ringing in your ears.
Your ears can cope better with loud sounds if you give them regular breaks. This gives your ears time to recover and re-adjust before they are then exposed to loud noises again. If you visit an audiologist, they will be able to tell you what noise levels are safe for our ears and which are not. If this is something you are concerned about, you can buy a device that will tell you the noise level in a room at any given time. If you don’t want to know exactly what noise level the room is at, that’s okay too. Just make sure that you are giving yourself and your ears enough time before you go back to where the noise is.
Stress and anxiety can sometimes be the cause of tinnitus. If you manage to keep yourself calm and stress-free, you might be able to prevent yourself from every getting tinnitus. We know that this is easier said than done with all the things in life that make you stress, but you don’t want to be hearing noises in your ears because you couldn’t relax all those times. To do this, you should do things that you enjoy every day and take some well-deserved time for yourself. You need to find that healthy life balance that gives you the time you need while also managing that hectic, stressful life. If you can do this, you might find that it decreases your risk of developing tinnitus later in life.
